This year SEI received over 200 applications to their Awards Programme – one of the most competitive years in their history. I am honoured to be among the 8 ground-breaking entrepreneurs selected for the Finalists Programme this year. The Awards are intended to both celebrate and provide support to Ireland’s most ambitious entrepreneurs who have innovative solutions to the social problems facing Ireland.

Having made it onto their 2013 Finalists Programme, Move4Parkinson’s are guaranteed substantial support from Social Entrepreneurs Ireland, the full extent of which will not be known until November when precise awards are finalized. However, making it to the Finalists Programme is a clear indication that SEI believe that both Mags and Move4Parkinson’s have the ability to fundamentally change how we address this issue in Ireland

Social Entrepreneurs Ireland’s CEO Seán Coughlan, speaking at the announcement of the finalists said:

“There is no denying that Ireland is in need of profound change, but the huge number of quality applications we received for the SEI Awards gives us firm hope that there is a vibrant and growing community of social entrepreneurs in our country coming up with brilliant ideas for social change and working tirelessly to put those ideas into action.
For 2013 we have eight finalists that have huge potential to make a positive impact to Irish society and we aim to help them quickly scale and grow their organisations so their important work impacts as many people as possible in the shortest amount of time. We look forward to playing a role in helping them reach their full potential and make a profound impact on Irish society.”

Since its creation seven years ago, SEI has supported over 160 social entrepreneurs, investing €4.9 million in their pioneering projects. This in turn has had a positive and direct impact in the lives of over 200,000 people all over Ireland.

With their invaluable support and guidance, Move4Parkinson’s look forward to furthering our goal of empowering People with Parkinson’s to improve their quality of life. We will be able to spread our message to an even wider audience; the message that People with Parkinson’s don’t have to simply be passive recipients of their healthcare. Inspiring them to explore all the options that are available to them and take back control of their lives.

The other finalist are:

Krystian Fikert – MyMind
Natasha & Toby Haslam Hopwood – The Galtee Clinic
Peter Johnson – Jobnet
Graham Jones – Solas Project
Brian McCormick – Adtruism
