International Parkinson’s Empowerment Summit Highlights

IPES Highlights

Move4Parkinson’s and the US-based Davis Phinney Foundation hosted the International Parkinson’s Empowerment Summit on Friday, 3rd October 2014 at Citywest Hotel and Conference Centre in Dublin. The conference was the largest of its kind in Ireland and attracted over 500 people with Parkinson’s, their family members and care partners to the event, from around Ireland and the UK, as well as national and international healthcare professionals and well-being experts.

This Event Took Place on October 3rd, 2014.

The event was designed to provide information and motivation to people living with Parkinson’s disease and their families by helping them to understand and manage their symptoms more effectively and to hear messages of hope and inspiration. There were informative presentations, interactive movement breaks and plenty of opportunities for singing and dancing.

The survey results we have received to date show that an enormous 97% of participants felt that their hopes and expectations were met on the day, which was very rewarding feedback. In addition, when asked to rate how well the International Parkinson’s Empowerment Summit provided the ‘inspiration to live well with Parkinson’s today’, 90% rated it excellent.

To those of you who managed to join us on the day, thank you so much for your valuable participation and for helping to make the day so special. For those of you who were not able to get there, we hope that the information below in the ‘Highlights from the Day’ will give you a flavour of the event and also some valuable information; including full presentations from all the speakers from the General Session, photos and more.

We’d like to thank our amazing sponsors, without whom this event would not be possible

Mags Mullarney Blogs About IPES 2014

Wow wow wow! What a day we had last Friday, the culmination of great deal of organisation and the bringing together of almost 600 amazing, courageous, wonderful people which gave us all space to be ourselves.
There was so much laughter and fun, as well as a few tears both of sadness and joy. We all came together as a community: doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, healthcare workers, care partners, family and friends, our sponsors, the Pharmaceutical industry, Parkinsons support organisations from around the world – all with one purpose, to find ways of living life to the full and helping to make a difference to other people’s lives.

To each and every one of you who took part thank you for having the courage to take a chance, make a change and to support one another on the day – sharing stories and so much more.

To Davis Phinney and the Davis Phinney Foundation we did it! We made it happen! Move4Parkinsons Foundation and The Davis Phinney Foundation collaborated to put together a unique day of empowerment, education and Inspiration and together we can make a difference. We are all working to create a new world in which everyone understands Parkinson’s disease and where those of us with Parkinson’s are not defined by our disease.

So where to next? Take the time to reflect on what you saw, heard, experienced and reflect on the one change you want to make in your life.

Find something to do that you have never done before and experience the journey.

Check out our new website we will be updating it over the next few weeks with content from the International Empowerment Summit 2014, so watch this space!
