Today is a very special day for one of our choir members, Maura Wall-Murphy, as she launches the memoires of her late husband, Denstone Murphy under the title; Rumour of Hope. The book is being launched by Sean Freyne, Emeritus Professor of Theology at Trinity College Dublin.
Denstone was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in October 1986 and very shortly after that he began to experience speech problems. He wrote an article in the 1980’s about the challenges of Parkinson’s, especially in relation to his voice. As Denstone himself was a lecturer in both the Department of Education at Trinity and in Cabinteely Community School, his voice was a very important part of his life.
The article also talks about the need for self-management of Parkinson’s disease. Clearly Denstone was ahead of his time and it is fitting that Maura has joined Move4Parkinson’s, a community who advocate for self-management. On behalf of everyone in Move4Parkinson’s, we wish Maura all the best on this auspicious occasion.
